Oklahoma Redhawks Support Kids Marathoners
OKLAHOMA CITY – For the second consecutive year, the Oklahoma RedHawks, OKC’s triple-a baseball franchise, will treat participants in the Oklahoma City Kids Marathon a ticket to an upcoming game. Young athletes will attend the Friday, May 6 game against Nolan Ryan’s Round Rock Express, compliments of the RedHawks.
“We’ve seen great growth in this event over the past couple of years, and we thank the RedHawks for their role in that growth,” said Jaime Keel, director of the Kids Marathon. “Thanks in no small part to the RedHawks, over a thousand youngsters will work toward a healthy lifestyle while paying honor to those lost in the 1995 Murrah bombing.
“Thanks to the RedHawks for helping our kids FIND A REASON TO RUN, and making this year’s event truly another RUN TO REMEMBER!” Keel concluded.
The Kid’s Marathon, sponsored by The Oklahoman, is for young athletes (ages 11 & under) including athletes with physical and mental challenges athletes (buddies may be used as needed).
Before April 24, participants will run 25 miles in any increment, and log their miles on a special form provided by the Marathon. A parent or teacher must sign for each mile run.
On race day, April 24, 2005, these young athletes will run the last 1.2 miles — on a course that starts and finishes where the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon starts and finishes.
