BACKGROUND: As in years past, the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum will recognize those who were killed, those who survived and those changed forever by the April 19, 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, in a special ceremony. This year’s ceremony will include a reading of the Memorial Mission Statement, 168 seconds of silence, an invocation, posting of colors, singing of the National Anthem, and a reading of the 168 names of those who were killed. The ceremony is expected to last about one hour.
Members of the media wishing to cover the ceremony need to be in place by 8:30 a.m. in a reserved media area at the Survivor Tree. Please e-mail nc@oklahomacitynationalmemorial.org with any special requests. Media credentials will be passed out Wednesday morning. Satellite/Media truck parking should be along Robinson Ave. and should be coordinated through Sheila Dees, OKC Traffic Department, at 405.297.2004.
Thanks to Cox Communications, admission to the Memorial Museum will be free of charge for all visitors on April 19. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., with last admittance at 5 p.m.
The Oklahoma City National Memorial will award its second annual Reflections of Hope Award to Durga Ghamire, whose work to empower families in guerilla-controlled areas of Nepal has created hope in the midst of political violence and is the reason she was selected. She will be honored at a dinner celebration at the Meinders Hall of Mirrors at the Civic Center Music Hall in Oklahoma City on April 19 at 7 p.m. She will also receive a $25,000 cash grant and will work with the Memorial & Museum to create educational programming. Ghamire will be available by appointment for interviews on Tuesday, April 18. Please call for an appointment time.
If you have any questions or need any other information, please contact Nancy Coggins at 405.235.3313 or nc@oklahomacitynationalmemorial.org.
