***MEDIA ALERT***
Chair of House Subcommittee on Interior Dept. Appropriations Visits Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum
Media Briefing will be held at Survivor Tree

What: Representative Charles Taylor (R) from North Carolina
Where: Oklahoma City National Memorial – Survivor Tree, 620 N Harvey Ave., Oklahoma City
When: 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 31, 2006

Background:
Congressman Taylor is in Oklahoma City to visit the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum to research the public/private partnership between the Memorial and the National Park Service as Congress approves funding for the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, Pa. and to examine the long-term aspects of maintaining and operating such memorials.

Currently the Oklahoma City National Memorial’s staff and board are working with Congressman Taylor to secure the last $2 million of a $5 million matching fund authorized by Congress in January 2004 for the establishment of an endowment to sustain operations of the Memorial in perpetuity. The state of Oklahoma matched the $5 million approved by the federal government and an additional $7 million was raised in private funds to support the endowment.
