OKLAHOMA CITY NATIONAL MEMORIAL TO OPEN NEW EXHIBIT ON FBI BOMBING INVESTIGATION

Exhibit takes visitors ‘Behind the Scene’ to follow the trail of evidence

OKLAHOMA CITY — Never before-seen evidence collected by the Federal Bureau of Investigation during the initial crime scene investigation of the Oklahoma City bombing will be on display in a special exhibit opening September 1, 2006, at the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum.
Behind the Scene: The OK Bomb Investigation will take visitors through the trail of evidence in search of answers following the Oklahoma City bombing. Using crime scene photos, evidence including parts of the Ryder truck, evidentiary boards from the McVeigh and Nichols trials and accounts from FBI agents involved in the investigation to piece together the case against the two conspirators, Behind the Scene offers a rare glimpse into one of the FBI’s largest domestic terrorism cases in history.

“The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum has a long-standing partnership with the FBI, which is an integral part of the stories and lessons taught through the Memorial and Museum,” said Kari Watkins, Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum executive director. “This exhibit gives us the opportunity to teach visitors about the investigation process through evidence and photos that were gifted to the Museum by the FBI following their use in the trials of the co-conspirators in this case.”
Retired FBI agents, some of whom worked directly on the case, from the Society of Retired Special Agents of the FBI, Inc. will serve as docents in the exhibit to give greater understanding of the investigation to visitors and groups touring the Museum.

Behind the Scene will remain on display through January 15, 2007, and is presented by Chesapeake Energy Corporation, Devon Energy Corporation, Kerr-McGee Corporation and the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI, Inc. Additional support is provided by Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation, Inasmuch Foundation, Merrick Foundation, Wal-Mart and SAM’S CLUB and What’s Cooking.
The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum was created to honor “those who were killed, those who survived and those changed forever” by the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. The Memorial and Museum are dedicated to educating visitors about the impact of violence, informing about events surrounding the bombing, and inspiring hope and healing through lessons learned by those affected.
The Outdoor Symbolic Memorial is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is free of charge. The Memorial Museum is open Monday – Saturday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Sunday, 1-6p.m. Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors (62+) and $6 for students (5-college with valid ID). Children under 5 are admitted free. Group rates and programs are available. Special exhibits are included in the cost of admission. Ticket sales end at 5 p.m. daily. The Museum is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
