NATIONAL MEMORIAL ANNOUNCES PARTICIPANTS FOR  2007 FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
Twelve participants from across nation will study impact of violence, apply lessons learned to classroom curriculum

OKLAHOMA CITY — School shootings, teen suicide, bullying – to try and save a generation of students from dealing personally with the impact of those events, twelve educators from across the United States will participate in a four-day Teacher Fellowship Program to create and share curriculum at the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum.

This is the third year the Memorial Museum is offering the program to educators with the goals of teaching them the impact of violence, ways to make the world safer and how to use the lessons learned in incidents like the April 19, 1995, bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City in educational curriculums universally.

The Memorial Fellows will participate in workshops, tours and other sessions during the four-day fellowship, which will be held June 18-22, at the Memorial and Museum. The will also join educators from Oklahoma in the Memorial’s seventh annual Education Summit.

“This program affords us the opportunity to learn how best to provide curriculum and programming on the impact of violence, personal responsibility and so much more to educators across the nation,” said Lynne Roller, Deputy Director, Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum. “The unique perspectives each participant brings to the table make it possible to envision and create programs that work for all educators. We also are excited this year to have educators from study areas not previously represented, including dramatic arts and technology integration.”

The 2007 Oklahoma City National Memorial Teacher Fellows include:

  • Sally Farr, Social Studies Curriculum Specialist, Katy Public Schools, Katy, Tex.

The 2007 fellows have between three and 32 years of experience, and five have more than 20 years classroom experience.

“The selection committee had a difficult time choosing among the applicants for this year’s fellowship. We are very pleased with those who were chosen,” said Lynne Roller, Deputy Director. “We look forward to working with this amazing group of educators. We know we will create more exciting curriculum and projects that can be used in multiple areas of study, and in turn will also have more educators equipped with ways to teach the valuable lessons of this Memorial & Museum.”

The Memorial’s Teacher Fellowship Program is made possible through the generous support of JPMorgan Chase.

The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum was created to honor “those who were killed, those who survived and those changed forever” by the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P.
