National Park Service Junior Ranger Day Activities Planned at
Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum

OKLAHOMA CITY — Children ages 6-12 can register now to become a National Junior Ranger at the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum, Saturday, April 28.

The National Park Service at the Oklahoma City National Memorial, an affiliated area within the National Park System, will be providing Junior Ranger Programs to help children ages 6 through 12 appropriately learn about the April 19, 1995, bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, its aftermath, and the symbolic Memorial components. National Park Rangers will present the one-hour programs at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and will provide support materials to help the Junior Rangers make a special connection with the Memorial.

“We expect the participating children to feel a sense of hope and encouragement by learning ways that they can help make this world a better place, just as many came together after the bombing to help overcome evil by committing acts of kindness and public service,” said Lisa Conard Frost, Supervisory Park Ranger, National Park Service, Oklahoma City National Memorial. “Each program will end with an official swearing in ceremony in which each child will receive a certificate and a Junior Ranger badge.”

Saturday, April 28th has been deemed National Junior Ranger Day in conjunction with National Park Week (April 22-29), which is designated annually by Presidential proclamation for celebration and recognition of the country’s nearly 400 National Park areas.

Due to space limitations, Reservations are required for participation. A parent or guardian is asked to attend with each participating junior ranger. For reservations or more information on how your child can participate, please call 405.235.3313.

The Junior Ranger Program is one of many educational opportunities for children, students and families to experience at the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum. Educational items, including Junior Ranger materials, are available in the Memorial store.

The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum was created to honor “those who were killed, those who survived and those changed forever” by the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. The Memorial and Museum are dedicated to educating visitors about the impact of violence, informing about events surrounding the bombing, and inspiring hope and healing through lessons learned by those affected.

The Outdoor Symbolic Memorial is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is free of charge. The Memorial Museum is open Monday – Saturday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Sunday, 1-6p.m. Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors (62+) and $6 for students (5-college with valid ID). Children under 5 are admitted free. Group rates and programs are available. Special exhibits are included in the cost of admission. Ticket sales end at 5 p.m. daily. The Museum is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
