Oklahoma Educators Invited to Apply for Two-Day Education Summit

OKLAHOMA CITY NATIONAL MEMORIAL SEEKS EDUCATORS TO PARTICPATE IN ANNUAL EDUCATION SUMMIT

Educators from across state will be chosen to participate

The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum will host its eighth annual Education Summit on Wednesday and Thursday, June 11 and 12, 2008. Participants chosen will study the events of April 19, 1995, and the resulting lessons that can be taken and applied to classroom use across the curriculum.

The free program will include a variety of presentations and hands-on activities designed to provide educators with innovative ways to approach the lessons associated with teaching about the impact of violence. Educators will also experience stories of hope from family members, survivors, rescue workers and others involved with the April 19, 1995, tragedy.

“This program enables educators as well as the Memorial to best use the story of the bombing to teach not only the significant historical aspects of the event, but also life skills crucial to our youth,” said Lynne Roller, Memorial Museum Deputy Director. “This two-day summit provides educators the tools they need to approach teaching lessons in tolerance, personal responsibility, conflict resolution and cooperation in all areas of classroom curriculum.”

Teachers receive free educational materials and documentation of participation for staff development. Teachers will learn innovative ways to teach students conflict resolution strategies, the importance of personal responsibility, and how one individual can make a difference in this world. The Education Summit was made possible through the generous support of The Kerr Foundation, Inc. and The Merrick Foundation.

All public and private educators in Oklahoma are eligible to apply for the Education Summit. Application forms are available online , and must be received at the Memorial by 5 p.m. on May 2, 2008.
