C-SPAN Political Education Bus to Stop at Memorial

March 17, 2007

Saturday, March 17, 2007
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The C-SPAN Campaign 2008 Bus is traveling across America through the 2008 presidential election to help support school and community efforts to educate Americans about civics, government and our electoral process. The bus is a traveling classroom and a mobile production studio. This year the bus tour is named for C-SPAN’s Road to the White House series that tracks the campaign. C-SPAN representatives will be on hand for interviews. C-SPAN was created by America’s cable companies, and Cox Communications Oklahoma is supporting this year’s bus visit to the state.

The Oklahoma County chapter of the League of Women Voters will be registering voters during the four-hour visit.

“One of the most important lessons we teach is that as part of a democracy, there are avenues in place for people to affect change in government, said Kari Watkins, Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum executive director. “Voting is one of the principle ways we have as citizens of this state and nation to influence leadership. It is important to us that everyone understands ways they can positively use the processes in place, and that they understand that violence against a government or its people is not one of them.”
