EDUCATION
As the Memorial and Museum were being planned, it was important to all involved to create a site where individuals could come and not only remember those who were killed, but to understand the impact of terrorism and violence and leave with hope and determination to make this world a better place. Survivor Richard Williams and family member Rosemary Koelsch, discuss what they hope visitors will learn from experiencing the Memorial.
In addition to tours of the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial and the Museum, the education department has developed many resources and programs to teach about respect, resilience, and responsibility. Field trips, workshops, curriculum and other educational resources are available to assist educators in teaching about the Oklahoma City bombing. To read more about what resources the Memorial offers, please visit the Education section on our website.
Called2Change, the signature education program from the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum, was designed for middle school students, but adaptable for grades 5-12. Called2Change reaches students at a critical point in their lives, when peer pressure, growing responsibility, and the need to belong are at their peak. Schools that have implemented this powerful program have seen marked improvement in their school environments, including dramatic decreases in office referrals and fewer physical disagreements among students.
