Description
This yellow hard hat was left on the fence by Kalina DeMarco of Moore, OK, a rescue worker who worked on April 19, 1995 at the Murrah site. Several images and messages cover this helmet. There is a drawing of a happy face with a downward turned mouth on the top of the crown with the date 1995. On the front of the crown is a round, white sticker with black lettering that says, "I gave blood! Be nice to me. American Red Cross." On the sides of the crown is written, "I will always remember, April 19, 1995, the looks of dispair [sic] on all the faces of everyone there and the feelings of helplessness we all shared. I sometimes still hear ... the alarm ringing in my head and see the broken glass flying all around. The weather was terrible that night. We were all cold and wet during the rain and storm, but that didn't stop what we tried to do. It was about 10:30 or 11:00 pm and the last survivor was pulled out. I remember the toys I saw being bulldozed away and it didn't hit me until one year later how all those parents would never again get to watch their children play. I think I will love my family more and never take life for granted again. The Lord Jesus I am so thankful for to help me each and every day and to the families I'm sorry. I wish we could have done more. You will always be in my thoughts and prayers from that day and forever more. Kalina eMarco [sic] Moore OK." Inside in black is written "Kalinda DeMarco."
