Description This is a videotaped interview with Kirk Humphreys, Mayor of Oklahoma City from 1999 to 2003. He discusses the events of the morning of April 19, 1995, feeling the force of the blast 5 miles away; martial law, strangeness of seeing military personnel on city streets, check points; getting news from television; unlikely nature of an attack on Oklahoma City; rebuilding the area, reconstruction and economic recovery; return of the Federal Campus to the downtown area; economic aid; incentives for businesses to return downtown; urban renewal; perceptions about Oklahoma and Oklahomans; cooperative spirit of Oklahomans, perseverance; importance of involvement in civic life; inability to control terrorism, importance of controlling the response to terrorism; failure of McVeigh to do damage to the community and nation.
