Description
This print was sent to the Mayor's office. It depicts angels welcoming children to heaven. Some angels hold signs which read "Welcome," "To Your Heavenly Home" and "No More Tears." Nailed to the bottom of the frame is a brass plate with engraved lettering that reads "In memory of the children of Oklahoma City who were killed or injured in the April 19, 1995, bombing of the Federal Building from the children at Christian Elementary School, in Springfield, IL. Revelation 21:4." Paper glued to the back has a black and white image of artist with the text "Hallelujah Square, A Reflection of God's Precious Promise... More than any other mural in the chapel, Hallelujah Square seems to touch the hearts of those who enter the sanctuary. I feel that the reason for its impact - and I have witnessed the tears of many who stand before it- is that it helps people reflect upon loved ones who have gone on to be with the Lord. I had been painting Hallelujah Square for over three years, when in the fall of 1992, I felt it was time to make a major addition. After a night of studying the Scripture, a spot that previously had seemed complete, appeared to have an emptiness, a void just waiting for something to happen. I chose to add a rainbow to symbolize the blessings that speak of God's Grace and also is a witness to his judgment. As visitors gaze at this mural, I'm continually reminded of God's precious promise.. 'Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither has it entered into the heart of man, the things that God hath prepared for them that love him.'" Sam Butcher.
