The lettering on this plaque reads "AWARD OF GRATITUDE Present to The Disaster Hospitality Care Team & All Who Supported The Oklahoma City Rescue Efforts. On April 20, 1995, We responded with many others to assist at the scene of the bombing at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. We were deployed as a well equipped, well trained, and highly experienced search and rescue team and we performed our duties as such. We were met at the Myriad Convention Center by a group of volunteers, strangers to each other, who possessed nothing but a determination to help and a lot of heart. You transformed a big empty building into a well organized reception center which we called home. You fed us and cared for us, but most of all you opened your hearts to us. Your caring ways boosted our morale and contributed greatly to our success. Your love helped neutralize the horror that was the Murrah Building. We want the world to know that we were all part of one big team. We just played different positions of equal importance. You will always be in our thoughts. May God Bless You All. FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY, URBAN SEARCH AND RESCUE, NEW YORK TASK FORCE 1, April 19, 1996." |
