Description
|
| With the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Building in 1995, the Central City Post Office was too damaged to salvage. The old building was razed to make way for a new Post Office to be built on this site. The Memorial process had just begun when the Post Office was being removed. The Memorial TaskForce had Post Office Box 323 for an address. The Postmaster saved the door from P.O. Box 323 in the damaged Central City Post Office building and gave it to the Memorial.
The door is made of iron, hinged with two hinges on the left side. The front is gold and the back is tan. The front is edged with a raised geometrical design; the hole that held the key lock has a star around it with letters. The door has a window, backed with black metal, with a slot that holds the box number on a paper insert. |
