Description This videotape contains the program "In Their Own Words." The program includes archival footage and interviews with Tammy Eardman, Mark Robison, William Lindsay, William Kenney, Melissa Webster, Paul Holman, Arnell Dean, Jim Taylor, and Joe Wallace. EMT workers discuss their experiences downtown after the bombing, treating people, injuries, and pride at the accomplishments of EMSA.

Program resumes at 7:54. Interview with Kurt Wargo and Mike Hansen. Interview conducted for the Oklahoma Historical Society by Roger Harris on April 18, 1996, in Oklahoma City. Discussion centers on New York City Task Force 1, operations at the World Trade Center, deployment to Oklahoma City, working at the Murrah Building, coordinating with other Teams, Oklahoma Standard, Myriad, letters of support, wanting to stay in Oklahoma longer, leaving Oklahoma City, volunteers and support personnel, visits from Governor Keating and other leaders, dealing with media, token of appreciation from Oklahoma leaders, communication with Oklahoma children. Program begins at 34:23. Interview with James Chen, Dewey Perks, Gary DeBrewer of Virginia Task Force 1, April 18, 1996, Roger Harris interviewing for the Oklahoma Historical Society in Oklahoma City. Discusses the formation of the Task Force, working with FEMA, operations other than Oklahoma City (Bosnia, Hurricane Hugo, Northridge Earthquake), deploying to Oklahoma City, beginning operations, seeing the extent of the damage, recovery work, local agencies, critical incident stress debriefing, emotional support from the community, letters of support, returning home, emotional impact, emotional preparation, debriefings, Oklahoma Standard. Ends at 59:39.

Interview with Michael Berg and Benjamin on April 18, 1996, in Oklahoma City, interview by Roger Harris for the Oklahoma Historical Society. Discusses canine search operations, working with Benjamin, search and rescue work, patrol work, tracking human scent, other deployments, psychological drain on Benjamin, setting fake victims at the Myriad for Benjamin to rescue and raise morale, support from the community, Benjamin's job performance and living conditions, working with other FEMA teams, local police, Oklahoma Standard, demobilizing and returning to New York. Discuss formation of the Task Force, training, personnel, equipment, other deployments, non-FEMA work, Oklahoma Standard, working with other teams, psychological impact on team members, national exposure, nature of the job, dealing with the media, injuries to team members, difference between the bombing and earthquakes. Ends at 1:47:53.

Program begins at 1:47:56. Interview with Don Forsyth, California Task Force 5, Orange County. Interviewed by Roger Harris for the Oklahoma Historical Society, April 19, 1996, in Oklahoma City. Discusses involvement with firefighting, forming the task force, funding, activation, deploying to Oklahoma City, 7 days at the Myriad, initial reconnaissance mission, Mike Rohde, seeing the destruction, working with other agencies, working with local rescuers, coordination, teaching at the Emmitsburg facility, support from the community, Oklahoma Standard, keeping the media away from the Myriad, injuries to team members, relationships with Oklahomans, Memorial Center development, FEMA facility at Emmitsburg, positive impact on the perception of firefighters, Marsha Spivey and Caroline Morton.
