Description
|
| Penny Owens was a reporter for The Daily Oklahoman who covered the incident and both trials. She was also the pool print reporter who made the visit through the damaged buildings during the rescue and recovery operation. Penny remained in Denver throughout both the McVeigh Trial and the Nichols Trial and has extensive notes covering motions, jury selection and the trial process.
These are Penny Owens' personal note books containing the notes taken for use in writing her stories. The Memorial has an extensive newspaper collection that includes the stories written by Penny Owens.
There are 48 spiral notebooks each 8.25 inches high, 4 inches wide, with metal spiral at top. Covers are brown and imprinted with THE DAILY OKLAHOMAN, THE SUNDAY OKLAHOMAN, or On The Scene Notes.
These notebooks provide a collection of notes and impressions. They do not read like a text, but only as a collection of quick notations. One of the most valuable aspects of the notebooks is the insight they provide into what a reporter was seeing and feeling, which is often far more emotional and direct than what is produced in the print articles. They capture the human element of both the reporter and the subjects of their interviews.
