Description
This is a commemorative medal from the Second Annual Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, held in 2002. The raised lettering on outer edge of the medallion reads "2nd Annual Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon." In the center is a raised image of the Survivor Tree and the words "April 28, 2002 Finisher." On the reverse side is written in raised lettering "Honor Their Memory, Celebrate Life, Unite The World In Hope, Reach For The Future" around outer edge. At the center is written "Presented by: Little Caesars" with a raised image of the Little Caesars logo. The medallion on green grosgrain ribbon. This medallion was removed from Blake Kennedy's chair on April 29, 2002. Some runners choose to run in honor of a victim, and often leave tokens behind on the chairs as a way of paying tribute to those for whom they have run. A medallion such as this represents the end result of a great deal of work and preparation on the part of the runner, and to leave it behind represents a sizable emotional sacrifice.
