| Description |
This is a commemorative medal from the Third Annual Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, held in 2003. The medal is bronze with an imprint of the Survivor Tree on each side. On one side are the words "Honor, Celebrate, Reach, Unite, A Run to Remember." On the reverse is written "3rd Annual Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon." The medallion is on a green grosgrain ribbon.
This medallion was removed from W. Stephen Williams' chair. Some runners chose to run in honor of a victim, and often leave tokens behind on the chairs as a way of paying tribute to those for whom they have run. A medallion such as this represents the end result of a great deal of work and preparation on the part of the runner, and to leave it behind represents a sizable emotional sacrifice. |
