| This medal is from the Fifth Annual Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon. It is etched with the words "5th Annual Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon," an image of the Survivor Tree and "April 24 2005 Memorial Walk." It is accompanied by a runner's placard with "IN HONOR OF Blake Kennedy" printed on the front. This medal was dedicated to Blake Kennedy. Some runners chose to run in honor of a victim, and often leave tokens behind on the chairs as a way of paying tribute to those for whom they have run. A medallion such as this represents the end result of a great deal of work and preparation on the part of the runner, and to leave it behind represents a sizable emotional sacrifice. |
