Description This medal is etched with the words "5th Annual Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon," an image of the Survivor Tree and "April 24 2005 Half Marathon."

The medal is accompanied by a piece of white paper with "IN HONOR OF Zackary Chavez" written on the front. There is an inscription from a woman named Yolanda: "4-24-05 10 years - Dear Zackary's mom: My name is Yolanda. I ran the 1/2 marathon in your son's honor and I wanted you to know that I was overwhelmed w/how much you would have been so proud of him. Thank you muchas gracies Yolanda."

The medal was dedicated to Zachary Chavez. Some runners chose to run in honor of a victim, and often leave tokens behind on the chairs as a way of paying tribute to those for whom they have run. A medallion such as this represents the end result of a great deal of work and preparation on the part of the runner, and to leave it behind represents a sizable emotional sacrifice.
