Description
|
| This medal is etched with the words "5th Annual Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon," an image of the Survivor Tree and "April 24 2005 Half Marathon."
The medal is accompanied by a piece of white paper with "IN HONOR OF Zackary Chavez" written on the front. There is an inscription from a woman named Yolanda: "4-24-05 10 years - Dear Zackary's mom: My name is Yolanda. I ran the 1/2 marathon in your son's honor and I wanted you to know that I was overwhelmed w/how much you would have been so proud of him. Thank you muchas gracies Yolanda."
The medal was dedicated to Zachary Chavez. Some runners chose to run in honor of a victim, and often leave tokens behind on the chairs as a way of paying tribute to those for whom they have run. A medallion such as this represents the end result of a great deal of work and preparation on the part of the runner, and to leave it behind represents a sizable emotional sacrifice. |
