Description
This medal is etched with the words "April 30, 2006 Finisher," an image of the Survivor Tree and the words "6th Annual Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon." On the reverse side is etched "Honor Celebrate Reach Unite A Run to Remember." This medal was dedicated to Lucio Aleman. It was removed from his chair on May 2, 2006. Some runners chose to run in honor of a victim, and often leave tokens behind on the chairs as a way of paying tribute to those for whom they have run. A medallion such as this represents the end result of a great deal of work and preparation on the part of the runner, and to leave it behind represents a sizable emotional sacrifice.
